Higher level cap (but different!)
I was thinking what if in GW at level 20 your stats would stop increasing but you could still gain levels. If you gained any levels after 20 you would get nothing from it exept the satisfaction that you are higher leveled than joe shmo to prove that you have done more quests and beat more monsters It woulden't be a big deal because you would gain no stats just satisfaction
Thx for listening to my newby mind

The problem with this is that it would increase the bragging. "HA HA I AM LEVEL 100 WHILE YOU ARE ONLY 50, I AM SO LEET AND GODLY". There isn't really any need for this.

This is just my opinion... but it seems to me that Guild Wars was designed to avoid exactly that kind of bragging. Playing 500 hours doesn't automatically make you better than the guy that just bought the game and is playing a pre-made PvP only character. Being better than him is taking him to school in the arena, not dazzling him with your level score. If having a big number next to your name is what drives you, you should seriously consider EQ or WoW. Guild Wars may not be the game for you. I'm not trying to be rude or offputting, but not all games are for all people.

im not saying the level 20 cap is bad or anything and the thing is if something like what arnansnow said happened it would just prove how stupid that person really is to think that they are better just because they've done more. It woulden't hurt the game at al

Thats exactly the thing though It woulden't It would make you the same exept the level would just be a symbol of what you have done and any respectable player would know that the level doesen't matter after 20. The way im suggesting a level 20 could beat the level 304 that is saying hes better than him and teach him a lesson

if it were only self satisfaction it would be fine but...........
it leads to people using it as an excuse to go shut up you noob i am levelxxx and what i say goes
this way you come across a level 20 8 months from now and there is not much to let you know if he/she is noob or expert old timer.
i like that even if i would be near the top of a grinding pyramid (or not )

well what if it was only for PvE characters and if a PvE character fought PvP they would show as level 20 no intimidation for enemys even though it still doesen't effect anything.
Or there could be something to show how many levels you would have gained after level 20. Something like 20(130) for the level. This way it would show newbs that dont know the cap is 20 that they are just as leet a the other level 20(0) standing next to them
Edit: crazy sorry I looked for a suggestion like this useing the search featre and all I found were suggestions saying their should be a higher level cap while still gaining stat points

but thats the thing....shouldnt someone who has played the game for 500 hours have more to show than someone who just reached level 20? i've reached level 20, am on the last mission, and after that - what is there to do? yes, theres PvP, but theres no way to make my character BETTER...there should be higher levels, and at the very least, weapons and armors, etc, only available to those higher levels...i think the longer someone plays the game, the more they should have to show for it

why are people so againist being "better or more to show" than someone else.
why do you care if they are lvl 30 and you are lvl 25. it just means they played more than you. but why do you care so much.
and no one runs around going " IM LVL 30 AND YOUR 28 SO YOU SUCK"
that's just in your minds.

it has nothing to do with that...its the point that once a character reaches level 20, they cant get any better...unless they farm or hit upon a +30 health item or sthg, and sell that to make money to buy better equipment...but theres no way to make ur character itself really that much better

you are right on that statement
THEY ARE MUCH NASTIER THAN THAT
seriously the ones that have to have the number proof of superiority do exactly that because it is all they have.
notice how important it is to some people who just cant accept being ONLY EQUAL to other people in the game

GW is a team-oriented game. Success means good teamwork, not your high stats or good armor. Having a number that glorifies individual achievement (I you can call it that) goes against the spirit of the game.

The only thing high level status would do is make the fights longer due to the fact HP will go up to 960 to 1000 and the moves of certain classes will become more uber. Elementalist could nigh spam cast spells all day. Monks would heal up to 200 to 400 with Divine Boon. All of the Rangers attacks and preparation would cost 1 EP allow them to spam moves and use Zephyr Quickness without exhausting their own energy pool. Warriors would get a 24% armor peneration with attacks and their boosting and defensive skills would last longer making them almost unhittable. Finally, Mesmers use can Diversion to hinder skills up to 100 seconds, cast Backfire to 228 damage per casting on his hexed opponent, and steal 40 EP per leech spell. The list of changes goes on and on and it gets stupid as time goes on.

No point pinning garbage because you didn't even read the original post.
The game already records these notional levels above 20 in the form of total exp.
I would like the ability to see more information about other players like their total exp, or perhaps better total exp for their account. I have characters which ascended at L17 and L18. Both were more use to a party than the average L20 you meet in the desert but difficulty forming or being accepted in parties meant I had to uncover most of the desert and do some ascension missions with Henchies.
Character class and level are the only things others have to judge you with and after L20 there is only class. I would not like to see people running around with this info above their heads but a facility to query more information about a targeted player would be welcome.

Pre-Searing Cadet

My first post here, hello.
I got GW only 5 days ago and I love it. I've just reached level 8 and I've finished all the quests pre-searing. I guess I wouldn't mind a small level-cap increase, maybe to level 25-30, but no level cap would be fine. I haven't reached level 20 yet so I don't know if it's required really.
Instead of a level cap increase I'd just like some kind of quantitive thing that keeps you playing. I don't know, maybe a record of how many creatures you have killed. Maybe make players drop something (like ears in Diablo II) to act as a trophy. Maybe medals of some kind?
Mostly I'd simply like new places to explore, new quests and missions etc. Also more customizable appearance would be good. Robes!
